I can understand the criticism to portray the movie from Leigh Anne's perspective, versus Michael's perspective, seeing as the book is the opposite. I also very much agree and am likewise critical of the historical inaccuracies. Changing how things really happened to make a character appear more noble or to make a segment more exciting, in any movie, is silly and arguably unethical. The only reason I would ever get behind historical inaccuracies is if it is done in order to simplify a story for people to better understand it (if the real story is very complex and difficult for the average person to follow) or if the run time limitations (like a 2 hour movie) would make the story flow very poorly if not simplified. Beyond that, I really can't think of any valid excuse to purposefully misrepresent history. However, I do have two main contentions. Firstly, I contest the idea that The Help is a White Savior Movie. Not only because no one is saved (arguably, things gets worse for the characters just as much as things get better) but also because the focus is not on Skeeter, it is split between her and Aibileen and Minny. The entire point of the movie isn't to save anyone, but just to get their stories out. And Skeeter and Aibileen BOTH have to get involved to set everything in motion. Skeeter was absolutely never going to get anything done by herself, and neither was Aibileen. They had to work together to achieve the end goal, or they would've failed. I call that a collaboration movie, not a White Savior movie. Secondly, I do hesitate to disparage movies which have the message of helping people who need our help. Perhaps you could argue that too many movies depict the ones needing help as people of color and the savior being white, and I would say that's fair. But to say that the concept in and of itself is wrong, I think is ridiculous. The problem is the volume, not the concept. Because the telling of such a story basically encourages people to think about others besides themselves and to be charitable to their fellow men. The problem is not that making White Savior movies is wrong, but that White Savior movies seem to be the most common movie to encourage being a good samaritan. We should not be saying, These White Savior movies are wrong to make, but we should instead be saying, We need to see other movies BESIDES White Savior movies with a similar message in order to balance it out. Having a movie where it's a person of color helping a white person in need wouldn't be getting this level of criticism. Why? Because again, it's not the concept that's flawed. POC Savior movies are not very common, thus lacking in volume. This is also the issue I see with so called diversity in movies. People too often say that movies with all white casts are wrong in some way. That is quite simply incorrect. Coco was not wrong for having an all Hispanic cast. Black Panther was not wrong for having a primarily black cast. Nor is any Tyler Perry movie wrong. Likewise, movies with all white casts are not wrong simply for having all white casts. The problem is, again, the volume, not the concept. There are infinitely more all white casted American movies than otherwise. (Obviously, this is not the case for Japanese movies, Indian movies, etc, so I think it's good to talk specifically about American films. Thus, it's fine to desire to see that imbalance being reduced. But I do find it problematic how common it is for people to blame the concept itself when it's merely the volume that's the issue. As a side note, I don't think it was Gabourey Sidibe's color that resulted in her lower career prospects. I think it was absolutely her size. You see countless women of color in film, but just like for white women, they are almost always conventionally attractive, both in facial structure and body shape. My favorite example is Lupita Nyong'o who is absolutely stunningly beautiful and an amazing actress who is very clearly going places in her career. Her color does not appear to be damaging her prospects at all. There just really aren't very many obese celebrities in Hollywood, white or black or brown. In fact, I've really only seen a couple of them start to get recognition only in the last year or so. As sad as it is to say so, I don't really see that changing either. Unfortunately, it is human nature to be very visually focused and judge based on appearances. The majority of people like to look at beautiful people more than they like to look at less than beautiful people. As someone who is not very conventionally attractive myself, I can sympathize with people being upset about this. But I do think it is very wrong to mischaracterize the troubles conventionally unattractive people have in Hollywood as being a race issue.

Amy and Meg instantly knew what to do. SHIP. What is Meg's job in Little Women. Emma Watson and Sydney Sweeney should do a movie together. Little women clip. How many pages does Little Women have. Little women read. 4:05 I would seriously pay 50 a ticket for a Sling Blade remake featuring Sylvester Stallone. Little women trailer. Jo and Laurie had such an amazing chemistry. I could accept the fact that she couldnt love him more than a brother, but they truly loved each other so its so sad for both of them in that scene, Jo is sad she have to broke her best friend heart and l Laurie is heartbroken from his best friend. You cant deny the fact that they were soulmates (not in a romantical way) and the way the distance each other because of this its just heartbreaking. I dont think him and Amy being married is the most weird thing that happend but it feels just forced so he would be “legally” part of the family because he was a family member In their all hearts. Maybe if we saw more of him and Amy it would be easier to judge. I certainly dont agree that the professor is right for Jo because that even if they both loved poetry and literature it still was tough for him to accept the things she loved to write about. He changed her youthful personality to something more stable and thats why it also doesnt seem right for me she would end up being married because its opposing her character who is free and independent.

Reading Little Women when I was younger I felt that Louisa May Alcott had written her four heroines as the type of girl I wanted to be. Each of the sisters in the United States Union had talents and gifts that I couldn't hope to achieve as a single girl of course. And in the Confederate South of the country at the same time was Scarlett O'Hara and her Southern Belle lifestyle, with her great love Rhett Butler. The pleasure of books was always that you could imagine becoming the character you were reading about. I like to think that maybe even Jane Austen's Elizabeth Bennett of Pride and Prejudice had some influence on Jo March. And for today's young girls Greta Gerwig has created a Little Women to encourage them to use their talents to achieve what they want. I love that Friends even had the story line with Rachel and Joey swapping books, she reading The Shining and he her Little Women. The viewers of Friends today would be encouraged to go see this fantastic new adaptation.
Greta has successfully switched the story line so we remember the sisters youth in flashbacks, to illustrate their present. And we start midway in the book with Jo, played by the always incredible Saoirse Ronan, lodging in New York, and trying to sell her writing to Tracy Letts's publisher Mr Dashwood. He wants pot boilers and if the main character isn't married at the end, then kill her off instead. Elder sister Meg played by Emma Watson is already married to the penniless but so handsome James Norton's John Brooke, with children. This Little Women has moved fast to Good Wives and Little Men. Florence Pugh is the delightfully well mannered, but at times dastardly Amy, just missing Elizabeth Taylor's peg for her nose. And Eliza Scanlen plays sweet shy Beth. I must also at this point praise Chris Cooper's Mr Laurence. The March's wealthy neighbour. The two of them mainly responsible for my many tears over the piano.

The period during and after the Civil War, and the genteel poverty of the Massachusetts March household is fabulously created by Jess Gonchor's production design. With sumptuous set decoration by Claire Kaufman. The cinematography by Yorick Le Saux is like watching paint dry by the great Renoir and his fellow Impressionist artists, with Cortès's street scenes. And by this I actually mean terrific in every sense. But the grand master is Greta Gerwig herself. I've followed her since Frances Ha, and Lady Bird was one of the many films I enjoyed but sadly never got round to reviewing. Hopefully this is my amends and at the forthcoming awards hope she is well and truly considered.
The female March household is run by Laura Dern's Marmee. Having quite the career at the moment and beautifully done. Quietly encouraging her girls to be who they want to be. Aided by Jayne Houdyshell's Hannah, always ready with a pair of shoes. And those beautiful costumes by Jacqueline Durran, with a palette that she developed for each of the sisters from the colour of the Christmas book they received at the beginning of the novel. And Meryl Streep is the rich and haughty Aunt March. Being so rich she can say and do exactly as she likes. And she advises a good marriage is all the girls should aspire to, as they are not rich. She is hilarious with Meg's choice! But comes through in the glorious ending that makes you want to cheer.
And Timothée Chalamet is Laurie. Mr Laurence's grandson. A rich idler whose charmed lifestyle we see first through the eyes of John Brooke, his then exasperated tutor, and later through Amy. His wild cavorting is not something available to John or any of the March sisters. As Amy points out to him the inequality of men and women (even when married. However rich. And he seems perfectly cast as the floppy haired louche. The great love story that never was, but all the March sisters seem to be a little in love with him, and the rest! and he with them. And far too neat for an ending with Jo. To the distraught Mr Dashwood. Stop me if you don't know the story but she meets her own Professor Friedrich Bhaer. I loved how Laurie is jealous of the talented newcomer, he can play the now silent piano! but caring, as Jo's protective new brother-in-law. Friedrich played by Louis Garrel being the equal in every way to Jo. And not afraid to criticise, much to her surprise. I like this new Professor very much. But how we wanted Jo and Laurie. And it almost happened this time. But fortunately the letter gets ripped up just when it's already too late.
In a nice touch of fiction becoming fact, one of the later scenes shows Jo negotiating the publication of her novel Little Women. We can imagine Louisa May Alcott negotiating her own book deal, and then we watch the beautiful printing and binding of the story of the March sisters lives. And Mr Dashwood's children urging him to hurry more of the earlier chapters was like the Harry Potter of the day. Written by Jo's urgent ink stained fingers.
Greta's Little Women made me want to go a wassailing again as a shout out to Winona Ryder's own Jo March. But the new Little Women are surely our best yet. A dream cast and talented crew in a gorgeous female centred production by a director who really cares about the love and friendship between the sisters, family and their friends.
